Davis Family Funeral Home & Crematory opens crematory

The Oklahoma Funeral Board granted unanimous approval during its monthly meeting last week for Davis Family Funeral Home & Crematory and Crematory to begin operations as a functional crematory.

Carter Davis, owner and Funeral Director in Charge, said, "We are pleased and honored to be able to offer special cremation services to our families in our newly-built crematory and family life center at our Walker Brown Chapel location."

Davis owns and operates both locations of Davis Family Funeral Home & Crematory & Crematory - Walker Brown and Dewey Chapels.

Construction on the crematory began in November and was completed this month. Davis plans to offer various types of cremation services, so families can customize how they want to honor their loved ones.

"Families will have the choice to be present when their loved one is placed into the cremation chamber or 'retort,'" said Davis. "Being able to witness the cremation can help create a more meaningful experience for those families who choose to do so."

The funeral board also granted approval for the locally-owned business to change the name of its Bartlesville location to Davis Family Funeral Home & Crematory & Crematory - Walker Brown Chapel, which is located at 4201 Nowata Road, Across the street from Memorial Park Cemetery. The Dewey Chapel is located at 113 S. Osage (Hwy 75).

The April 9 meeting of the Oklahoma Funeral Board was held online, due to the Covid-19 outbreak. All the members who were present approved both of Davis Family Funeral Home & Crematory's agenda items.

Davis family funeral home is first to install stryker power load system

Davis Family Funeral Home & Crematory in Dewey, OK has become the first funeral home in the United States to acquire and use the new Stryker Power-LOAD EMS System. Davis Family Funeral Home & Crematory is an innovative leader in the new professional model of funeral service, to modernize how it serves its clients and families, while safeguarding its employees' health and safety.

"As soon as our families and hospice nurses see us arrive with the Power-PRO cot, they instantly recognize the yellow and black system as the industry standard in patient and operator safety," said Carter Davis, owner-operator and funeral director in charge. "The Power-PRO cot has many design features that make it possible to enter even the most difficult turns in most homes or trailers. Unlike the traditional cot, it has collapsible rails that shorten the length of the cot. This helps ensure the proper handling and safety of our clients and families, our employees and other staff who are present."

"Since implementing the power load system we've been able to extend the ability of our retired part-timers to comfortably and safely make and assist in the dignified removal and transportation of our clients. This has been a blessing for our funeral home because it keeps our staff engaged in our work and enable them to do what they love to do, which is take care of the families we serve," said Davis.

Longtime Bartlesville resident opens Davis Family Funeral Home & Crematory

BARTLESVILLE, OKLA. - Davis Family Funeral Home & Crematory is a new business providing funeral services and merchandise in the Bartlesville-Dewey area, and it opened its doors Aug. 1. The full-service funeral home is locally owned and operated by Carter Davis, a professional funeral director with more than 18 years’ experience. Now a Bartlesville resident, Carter is the son of Gary and Brenda Davis of Dewey. The new business is located along Hwy. 75, at 113 South Osage in Dewey, in an extensively remodeled facility that combines a convenient public showroom with a private family suite.

The Davis Family Funeral Home & Crematory’s mission is to provide “Exceptional Services for Remarkable People.” The simple phrase sums Carter’s vision to offer high quality funeral services and funeral merchandise that honors the individual’s unique life, meets the family’s needs, comforts the grieving, and brings together people in the community, yet remains affordable and accessible to everyone.

“Funerals are an opportunity for families to grieve their loss, comfort each other and begin the healing process,” said Carter. “We want Davis Family Funeral Home & Crematory to be a trusted place of service for local families where they know they’re cared for, where people can properly evaluate what funeral services and options are available to them and what’s best for their situation, and where they’ll feel comfortable spending time during visitation and funerals. We began with that end result in mind, so we have deliberately created an accessible environment with a public showroom for easy browsing and a spacious family suite with a living room, dining area and kitchenette.”

The showroom is an "open concept" area where a range of caskets, urns and monuments are displayed with descriptions and prices clearly marked. To simplify the funeral planning and decision-making process, the Davis Family Funeral Home & Crematory offers five standard funeral packages. Each package includes the customary services of the funeral home, a choice of caskets for that package, and a standard burial container. More information regarding the funeral packages as well as a General Price List can be found on the funeral home website, www.davisfamilyfuneralhome.com. In addition, Davis Family Funeral Home & Crematory offers special order, premium caskets and customized funeral services to meet families’ additional needs.

Davis Family Funeral Home & Crematory offers a full range of funeral services that includes pre-planning, personalized funerals, burials and cremations, sales of caskets and monuments, special event planning and memorial keepsakes. The funeral home will have a comprehensive website with online obituaries and product information and it also plans to offer “live” and recorded webcasts of funerals and tribute videos by request.

Carter was born in Tulsa, but grew up in Dewey, the eldest of four children of Gary and Brenda Davis. Carter inherited his heart for service from his parents – Gary was a minister in the Nazarene Church for 10 years and then a  medical technologist at the Jane Phillips Medical Center (JPMC)  for 28 years; Brenda is a registered nurse who worked at the JPMC hospital for about 10 years, then at Washington County Health Department for 18 years. Like him, Carter’s siblings have chosen careers of service to people: Grayson is a hotel manager, Jeremy is a pharmacist, and Summer is an elementary school music teacher.

After graduating from Dewey High School (Class of ’91) where he was active in marching band and choir, Carter attended University of Central Oklahoma (UCO) in Edmond, Okla. UCO is just one of a handful of American universities with an accredited funeral service degree program and also where Carter met his future wife, Jacqueline, an international student from Singapore. Carter graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Funeral Science in December 1994, then served a one-year apprenticeship in Okemah, Okla., before moving toSingapore where he established its first specialized professional embalming service. Six years and two children later, Carter returned to the Bartlesville-Dewey area where he worked for other funeral homes for the next nine years.

Carter has been married for 15 years to Jacqueline Davis who works in HR communications at ConocoPhillips Bartlesville. Jacqueline has more than 18 years’ experience in communications, customer service and special events. She brings these customer-driven skills and professional experience to the Davis Family Funeral Home & Crematory. Jacqueline worked as public relations director for OK Mozart Festival for two years, and both Jacqueline and Carter credit that experience with opening their eyes to the importance of being involved in the community and how positive efforts can pass on and grow, benefitting generations of people.
