Alfred "Al" Jones Sr.

Alfred (Al) Jones Sr., went home to be with his Heavenly Father on Sunday, January 25, 2015, at 7:15pm. Alfred was born the son of Ruben and Lora Mae (Henderson) Jones on May 19, 1932, at Tupelo in southeast Oklahoma. His family moved to Mountain View, OK, in 1946 to work in cotton harvesting. At the age of 14, Al began his work life in the oilfields and custom combine harvesting. He worked both in-state and out-of-state for many years before embarking on a career in the service station business. Al and Joette Henry were married in 1950 and three children were born to this union: Janet Arlene Jones, Darlene Sellmyer and Joe Bob Merrill. He served in the army during the Korean War from 1952-1954. Coming to Bartlesville in 1954, Al began work in home construction with Gerald Coast, a longtime friend and comrade in the service. He then went to work for Tom Sas “66” Service Station for six years. Al Meet Marcella Hallagin and they were united in marriage on April, 6 1956. They enjoyed 58 years together and to this union two children were born: Marceleen Matney and Alfred (Sonny) Jones Jr. In 1958 Al acquired his own service station Al Jones “66” and operated it for 18 years. He then went to work for Phillips Petroleum Company opening up Madison”66” before taking early retirement in 1986. Al was an expert marksman and he enjoyed spending time outdoors, whether managing his farm, or fishing and hunting, his favorite hobbies. Al is survived by his loving wife Marcella of the home; daughters Darlene Sellmyer of Amarillo, TX, and Marceleen Matney of Owasso, OK, son Alfred (Sonny) Jones, Jr. and Hillary of Rogers, AR; brother Loran Leo Jones of Bartlesville; seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He also will be missed greatly by his many nieces, nephews, neighbors, friends, and caregivers Ashlee, Jo, Jazmine and Saurita. He is preceded in death by his parents, daughter Janet Arlene, son Joe Bob, a brother and three sisters. Al’s family will receive friends at the Davis Family Funeral Home, 918-534-3030, 113 S. Osage (Hwy. 75), Dewey, on Wednesday, January 28, from 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, January 29, 2015, at the First Baptist Church of Ramona, with Pastor Kevin Baker officiating. Interment will follow in the Tyner Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the James T. Teel American Legion Post 105 Honor Guard.
