Anna Oretta Vermillion

Anna Oretta Vermillion passed away Thursday, August 12, 2021, at Bartlesville Assisted Living at the age 100 years. Anna was born on May 21, 1921 in Tahlequah, Cherokee County, Oklahoma. Her father worked construction and her mother was a housewife. Her parents, Grover and Rosa, had 5 children. Anna went to school at Hulbert, Oklahoma and then married Elton (Snowball or E.J.) Vermillion, whom she met at church, and they had five children. In 1953 Anna and Elton moved their family from Cherokee County to a home in Bartlesville, Washington County. Anna enjoyed cooking for family and always looked forward to camping every summer and early fall at Fort Gibson Lake. Elton and their family and friends caught plenty of fish, her favorite food was catfish or crappie with cornbread and fried potatoes. She volunteered at Jane Phillips Hospital and attended Bluestem Baptist Church of Dewey. On May 21, 2021, the Centenarians of Oklahoma Hall of Fame, along with many family and friends honored Anna on her 100th birthday with a celebration party at the Bartlesville Assisted Living facility, where she has lived for the past 2 years. Anna is predeceased by her father and mother, Grover Daniel and Rosa Teehee Daniel; her loving husband of 55 years, Elton Jack “EJ” Vermillion; her daughter, Marjorie Sydebotham; a son, Elton “Jack” Vermillion; son-in-laws, Eddie Coonfield of North Carolina and Jerry Phillip Dodd of Celina, Texas; a grandson, Marty Scott Vermillion; three brothers, Louie, Vernon and Everett Daniel; a sister, Lola Faye Daniel. Anna is survived by a daughter, Lois Ann Coonfield of North Carolina; son, Charles “Bo” Vermillion and wife Janet of Ochelata; and daughter, Rose Ellen Dodd of Celina, Texas; grandchildren, Tim Sydebotham and wife Judy, Kim Stillwell and husband Richard, Dustin Coonfield and wife Leanna, Misty Vermillion, Amy Edmiston and husband Rusty, Tyler Deaton and wife Kendra, Stephanie Shelton and husband Kevin and Kathy Vermillion. Anna has 19 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Anna’s family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Monday, August 16, at Davis Family Funeral Home & Crematory – Walker Brown Chapel, 918-333-7665, 4201 Nowata Rd., Bartlesville. Visitation will also be held from 10-8 on Monday. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, August 17, at the Matoaka Baptist Church with Rhonda Yocham officiating. Interment will follow at the Dewey Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Carter Davis and Davis Family Funeral Home & Crematory – Walker Brown Chapel.
