Dermot Gerard Donoghue

Dermot Donoghue, 51, of Bixby, OK, formerly of Ireland, passed away on Sunday, November 6, 2022, in Seattle, Washington. Dermot was born March 8, 1971, to Patsy and Marie Donoghue in the village of Mullagh Co Cavan, Ireland. He was one of four brothers along with Noel, Enda and Niall. Dermot attended primary school at Mullagh National School and continued to post primary to Virginia Vocational School. Dermot worked as a teenager at the local butchers in Mullagh (Clarke) and then at a butchers in Kells Co Meath. At 17 years of age Dermot decided he wanted to travel, so he set off to the United Kingdom in 1988 to stay with his beloved Uncle Brian and Aunt Kay Daly, where he worked hard for 6 years. In 1994 he would again travel and fulfil another dream of his by going to America. He arrived in New York where he worked hard. He had a passion for aeronautics so he travelled to Tulsa, Oklahoma to attend the prestigious Spartan College to complete his A&P License in 2000 and was also Student Council President. It was in Tulsa where he met his best friend and partner Amanda. The loving couple married and had four beautiful children, Eli, Shane, Theia and Rory. Dermot setup an engineering company to provide for his family and worked hard at this business, building RF Shielding rooms across all of America. Dermot had a love of motorbikes from an early age and this would continue in all of the places Dermot travelled. He loved travelling and being out on the open road. We are deeply saddened at this unexpected loss and will miss him greatly. Dermot was larger than life, had an infectious smile and was an incredibly generous person who loved his family and gave all he had to provide for them. Dermot filled the room with laughter, bringing joy to everyone and in every occasion, especially to his own children. Dermot was a man of many talents, gifted in working with his hands and with people. There was nothing he could not accomplish. He made a positive impact on people’s lives and left a lasting impression. There are many words to describe Dermot, but none may be better than generous. From family members in need to strangers on the roadside, he was always willing to drop what he was doing and help. Dermot was a natural entertainer. Once he entered the room (or you heard him coming round the corner) you were drawn to him. He filled the room with his loud Irish accent often coming with unexpected gifts. He was like an Irish Santa Claus and often known for playing one in real life. Dermot was simply unforgettable. He will leave a gaping void in so many lives in both Ireland and Tulsa. We love you and miss you Dermot. Rest in Peace. Dermot is survived by his loving wife, Amanda Groves; four children, Eli, Shane, Theia, and Rory; his parents, Patsy and Marie (Daly) Donoghue; three brothers, Noel and his wife Sandra, Enda and his wife Aisling, and Niall and his wife Una; sister-in-law, Melanie and her husband Chris; brother-in-law, Nathan and his wife Tandy; mother-in-law, Kathy Smith and her husband Robert; father-in-law, Tom Groves and his wife, Jeri; and nieces and nephews, Tyler, Wyatt, Bethany, Eoghan, Cian, Oisin, Cathal, Eimear, Chloe, Lorcan, and Aaron. He was preceded in death by his grandmother Maria, and his grandfather-in-law, Richard Lowry. Dermot's family will be receiving friends from 4-8 p.m. on Tuesday, November 15th at the Davis Family Funeral Home and Crematory – Walker Brown Chapel, 918-333-7665, 4201 Nowata Rd, Bartlesville. A rosary will be said on Tuesday at 6 p.m. at the funeral home. Visitation will also be held on 9-12 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Funeral mass will be held Wednesday, November 16th at 2 p.m. in the St John Before the Latin Gate Roman Catholic Church. Interment will follow in the Oglesby Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Carter Davis and the Davis Family Funeral Home and Crematory – Walker Brown Chapel.
