Mrs. Doris Key Burrow

Doris Key Burrow, 84, longtime resident of Dewey, OK, died at her home Wed. afternoon. Doris was born at home in Dewey on January 24, 1929, to Harry H. Key and Rosa (Heath) Key. She was raised in Dewey and graduated from Dewey High School in 1947. Doris was united in marriage with Melvin Lee Burrow on February 1, 1947. They bought their Dewey home in 1951, some 62 years ago, and she lived there ever since. They spent 15 years in Senora, CA, but mostly enjoyed living in Oklahoma and running with friends here. She worked as a meat wrapper for Bowersocks Grocery, Louie’s Grocery and Bill and Louies. Her home church was Memorial Christian Church in Oak Park. Doris was known for her heartfelt love of music and kids. She played the mandolin and her husband played the guitar and fiddle, so not surprisingly they loved attending bluegrass festivals. She loved to entertain local kids and adored her nieces and nephews. The kids loved to ride her Burrows, Bennie and Bobbie. Doris and her husband also had horses and cattle. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Doris is survived by two brothers Cecil Ray Key of Dewey and Carl Leslie Key and his wife Karen of Dewey, and one sister Edith Marie Reed of Belle Plaine, KS, as well as 13 beloved nieces and nephews, Mark Jordan of Dewey, Malia Jordan of Oklahoma City, Cheryl Hicks of McAllen, TX, Daphne Sholl of Tulsa, Melanie Maxwell of Bartlesville, Joni Thurman of Bartlesville, John Key of Ardmore, Alice Weigel of Belle Plaine, KS, Leslye Anne Lawrence of Dewey, Clinton Key of Reston, Virginia, Terry Trowbridge of Bartlesville, Justin Key of Bartlesville, Jodi Hamlin of Bartlesville and a host of great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews . She will be dearly missed by her family and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband Melvin in 2003, her parents, one sister Thelma Vaye Jordan and one brother Louis Key. Friends may sign the register book on Friday July 19, 2013 from 9a.m. to 8p.m. Private family graveside services were held Saturday morning in the Dewey Cemetery. Minister Dan Snider of the Memorial Christian Church officiated. In Lieu of flowers a memorial may be made to the Memorial Christian Church, 1201 N. Virginia Ave., Bartlesville, OK 74003.
