Gladys Helen Deason

Gladys Helen Deason, aged 87, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, surrounded by her cherished family, transitioning into the arms of our Lord Jesus Christ. Born on December 2, 1936, in Boise, Idaho, Gladys was the daughter of William Collie and Dorthea Helen Shannon, who preceded her in death. Her journey was shaped by profound love and care from her aunt and uncle, Gladys and Harvey Watson, who raised her from the third to eighth grade. She held a special bond with them as secondary parents and their son, Leslie Paul Watson, whom she regarded as an older brother. Gladys embarked on life's adventures, relocating to Wichita, Kansas, after completing the 8th grade. She found solace and family with her mother, Dorthea, and graduated from North High of Wichita in 1955. Her career began at Dockums Drug and the International Brothers Mechanics Union (IBM). On October 4, 1958, after a seven-month engagement to Othel Deason, Jr., she exchanged vows with Othel at the Immanuel Baptist Church of Wichita. They were married for over 65 years. Gladys dedicated herself to their family, working at IBM until her children were older. She later served in various roles at Plaza Bank, Jane Phillips Hospital as a nurse’s aide, and the Washington County Treasure Office in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. An active member of New Harmony Baptist Church, Gladys devoted herself to the Southern Baptist Women's Missionary Union and spent forty years contributing to the Oklahoma Home And Community Education of Washington County, holding significant positions, including President. Gladys’s heart overflowed with love for the church, her husband, her family, and her community. She enjoyed her relationship with church friends, vacations, camping with the Wheels and Reels Club, traveling, and cheering for OU football. She is survived by her devoted sons, Randy and his wife Shirley, Mike and his wife Jennifer; grandchildren: Robyn and her husband Jake, Laura and her husband Clark, Rachel, and Dillon; great-grandchildren: Amelia, Ellie, and Dane. She joins her parents in eternal rest alongside her deceased half-brothers, Leroy, Earl, and Arnold Shannon, and half-sister, Dorothe Wellstein. Gladys' legacy of love, service, and dedication will forever resonate in the hearts of those she touched. She leaves behind cherished memories and a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of knowing her. A graveside service honoring her life will be held at Garden Grove Cemetery, EW110 Rd., Prague, OK 74864, on Saturday, November 23, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to New Harmony Baptist Church at 22050 North 4015 Rd., Bartlesville, OK 74006, are welcomed and appreciated.
