Janice Elaine Dirkes

Janice Elaine (Inda) Dirkes, age 79, gained her wings at 7:47am, July 2, 2018 after a long, fought battle with her health. Janice was born in Guthrie, OK on April 25, 1939 to Frank & Agnes Inda before moving to Dewey, OK. She attended four years of Grade School at St John’s School in Bartlesville. She graduated from Dewey High School with the Class of 1957 with the honor of Best Citizen’s Award. She was married to Thomas P. Dirkes from September 1957 to November 1994. Janice was honored with the Best Citizen’s Awards at Hill Air Force Base in Utah in 1963 for her performance in the Youth Activity Program serving as Girl Scout Leader and, also served as secretary for the Air Force Wives Club in California for two years. After returning to Dewey, she was the Girl Scout Leader for many years. Jan wrote many poems for her family and loved to write about family, home life and her love of children. She received the Editor’s Choice Award for Outstanding Achievement in Poetry in 1996. She was a member of the Music & Literature Club of Dewey and served as President for many years. Janice welcomed children into her home for Holidays from many children’s home over the years. She was a member of Dewey United Methodist Church and sang in the church choir for many years. Janice is survived by her daughters, Cynthia (Cindy) and husband, Leon Deal of Eufaula, OK, Jani and husband, Tim Toborg of Princeton, MN and Pamela (Pammy) Williams of Bartlesville, OK, God-daughter Sharon and husband Manual Macias and foster-son Chuck Murray of Pawhuska, OK, two brothers, Jack Inda of Dewey, OK, Peter Inda of Tulsa, OK, 13 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren, one sister-in-law Joycelyn Inda of Dewey and numerous nieces & nephews. She was proceeded in death by her husband of 36 years, Tom Dirkes, son Marty Dirkes, parents Frank & Agnes Inda, sisters Dorothy Cleland and Judy Woste, brothers Frank Inda, Jr., Bob Inda, Joe Inda, and Jim Inda. Brother-in-laws Glen Cleland and Dick Woste, Sister in-laws Belva Hively, Vivian Inda, nieces Lori Inda, Debbie Lipscomb, Chrissy Inda, nephew John Inda Jr. and great-great nephew Micah Brandon Lipscomb, Jr. In lieu of flowers, please send a donation to FBC Pea Ridge with a note that says “Debbie’s House” for Haiti Memorial House to FBC, P.O. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 12-8 and Friday 10-12 Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. on Friday, July 6, at the Dewey United Methodist Church with Bobby Lipscomb officiating. Interment will follow in the Dewey Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Carter Davis and the Davis Family Funeral Home – Dewey Chapel.
