Joann Farmer

Joann Farmer, 88, of Dewey, passed away on Monday, August 7, 2023, in Bartlesville. Joann was born August 1, 1935, in Fairfax, Oklahoma, to Alvin and Pearlie Alva (Smith) Robertson. In her younger years, Joann attended school and church at Grayhorse, Oklahoma, near Fairfax. Her father worked in the oilfields there, a job he continued until he passed away in his 90s. The family later moved to the Dewey area and Joann attended Dewey High School, where she was a cheerleader and graduated in 1953. While attending high school, Joann worked at Popkess Pharmacy. It was there she met the love of her life Edward “Eddie” Eugene Farmer, who had just returned from serving his country in the Korean War. They married on August 22, 1952, during Joann’s senior year of high school. After graduating from high school, Joann was a homemaker. She worked hard at taking care of her family and loved them dearly. During the Christmas season, Joann would sometimes work at Peter’s and Anthony’s to earn extra Christmas money. Joann and Eddie spent many years together singing gospel hymns at churches, nursing homes, weddings, funerals, and the Washington County Fair. They both enjoyed going camping and being with their family. Over the years, they were actively involved with the youth groups at Dewey, Wann, and Copan Baptist Churches. They were faithful members of Dewey First Baptist and then later Highland Park Baptist Church. The two loved each other’s company and were best friends. They complimented each other’s interests, as Eddie enjoyed vegetable gardening and Joann canned and preserved the fruits of his labor. It was common for Joann’s parents to join in the canning to be a family affair. Joann also enjoyed flower gardening and making flower arrangements, and she was an avid reader. Joann never met a stranger and could make anyone feel at home. She loved life and made it a joy to be around. She will be greatly missed until we all meet again. Joann is survived by a son, Kenneth Farmer and wife Terri; two daughters, Pam Witt and husband Alan R, and Brenda Thomas; brother-in-law, David W Farmer and wife Brenda; grandchildren, Jennifer Gomez and husband Jeff, Melissa Montgomery and husband Mike, Chris Farmer and wife Beth, Alan W Witt and wife Ashley, Rachel Holdredge and husband Harris, Abigail Witt, Cassie Conner and husband D’Wayne, Brodie Thomas and wife Mikayla, Raymond Thomas and wife Bailey; and great-grandchildren, Sophia Mayer, Ava Mayer, Clara Mayer, Ella Mayer, Brantley Mayer, Caleb Stockton, Sadie Gomez, Brooke Gomez, Silas Dyer, Audrey Farmer, Madelyn Farmer, Wesley Farmer, Liam Holdredge, Willow Holdredge, Allie Conner, Lydia Conner, Aria Thomas and Shepard Thomas. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward; her parents; brother, Jay Robertson; sister, Aria Marie Johnson; and great-granddaughter, Hadley Farmer. Joann’s family will receive friends at the Davis Family Funeral Home and Crematory – Dewey Chapel, 113 S. Osage Ave., Dewey, OK 74029, 918-534-3030, on Tuesday, August 15, 2023, from 6-8 p.m. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, August 16, 2023, at the Davis Family Funeral Home – Dewey Chapel, with Tom Holland and Pastor Mark Wright officiating.
