Kimberly "Kim" Mickelson

Kimberly Berentz Mickelson died peacefully in the early morning hours of Christmas Eve, with her family by her side. Kim was born May 27, 1959, to Jack and Shirley (Stewart) Berentz in Eureka, KS. She was the youngest of three girls. She grew up in Eureka and graduated from Eureka High School in 1977. She went on to study at Kansas State University, where she majored in elementary education. While at K-State she met and married Gordon Mickelson. Following graduation, they moved to Platte, SD, where Gordon purchased and ran a veterinary practice. They welcomed two children while living in South Dakota. After they separated, Kim moved with the kids to Bartlesville, OK. Shortly after moving, she enrolled in Bartlesville Beauty College and became a licensed cosmetologist. She did hair for several years and then decided to get her Oklahoma teaching license. She went back to school at Oklahoma Wesleyan University and then worked in elementary special education. During this time the opportunity arose for her to purchase a beauty supply business, and she became the owner of State Beauty Supply in January of 2000. She absolutely loved running her store. She enjoyed her customers and was proud of the success she achieved. In 2014 she sold her business and retired to spend more time with her family. She enjoyed traveling anywhere there was a beach, doing crosswords (or her “word puzzles,” as she called them), and watching true crime shows at max volume. She was always very independent and a notorious night owl. She was fun, genuine, and always there for anyone and everyone that needed a hand or an ear. She will be remembered for her kindness and amazing sense of humor. Her faith in God and that sense of humor never wavered. She was a wonderful mom, nana, and friend, and she will be deeply and dearly missed. Kim was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Shirley Berentz. She is survived by her children, Mollie Brooks (Dustin) of Bartlesville, OK, and Matthew Mickelson (Jennifer) of Arcadia, OK; her grandchildren, Marshall and Mason Brooks, Hudson Mickelson, and Nolan and Claire Mathews; her stepson, Max Mickelson (Darcie) of Rock Springs, WY, and daughters, Emery and Ada Margaret; her sisters, Barbara Hough (Kevin) of Eureka, KS, and Kathy Walters (Darrel) of Wichita, KS; several nephews, nieces, and cousins; and many lifelong friends who she considered family. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, January 4, 2025, at the Davis Family Funeral Home & Crematory – Walker Brown Chapel, 4201 Nowata Rd., Bartlesville. Arrangements are under the direction of Carter Davis and the Davis Family Funeral Home and Crematory Walker-Brown Chapel.
