Maria Amparo Garcia

Today we are honoring, celebrating, and remembering my mom Maria Amparo Garcia viuda de Silva, who passed away on July 28, 2022. Maria was born on Jan 12, 1927, in Mexico, to Hilario Garcia and Gala (Perez) Garcia. She was a woman of faith grace and courage, talented, hard-working, loving and tough love, too, if you needed it. My mother’s persona made the challenge of describing the fullness of her beauty inside and out. She sacrificed often for friends and loved ones, but always for her children. God was her compass. Even though she worked many long hours a week to support us, she prioritized family time anywhere she could find it. Her love and kindness were infused in everything she did. When she was cooking food to take to the church for someone in need, singing was always on her lips. Mother was always giving a ride to someone, opening her house to Bible study, caring for children, and sewing something for someone. My mom worked for Joe Frank of Houston, a very high end women’s clothing manufacturing company, where she won many awards for her talent, and was one of the chosen for a >HOT order> out of hundreds of seamstresses. That meant that some high society lady from anywhere in the world would be flown in to have a private fashion show. The boss would choose my Mom for the project and it would be made for her on the spot!!!! To do that you would have to be the best. My mom started her seamstress career at 14 making men’s dress shirts, at the same time her older sister Alejandra started a teaching job. Together they became providers of the family. Their dad, my grandfather, took ill and there were lots of mouths to feed. This kept my Mom away from her true passion: learning and studying. This would drive her life to instill her children to get a career. She taught us that with God all things are possible. She had a magical way of bringing joy every time she walked into the room. No one who met her could forget her smile. Her motherly advice was sought by many; she taught both adults and children. Her wisdom will forever guide the decisions we make through the rest of our lives. Maria is survived by her children, Rosa Flores, Elisa Salas and husband Joan Alberto, and Martha S. Lemay and husband Dr. William Lemay. She also has numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends, who will miss her dearly. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Julian Silva. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Davis Family Funeral Home & Crematory – Walker Brown Chapel, with Pastor Manuel Duràn officiating. Interment will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery in Bartlesville. Services are under the direction of Carter Davis and the Davis Family Funeral Home & Crematory – Walker Brown Chapel.
