Mariella Gibbs

Mariella Gibbs, 92, of Bartlesville, passed away on Friday, June 30, 2023. Mariella was born on January 11, 1931, in Wellington, Texas, to Clarence and Ruby (Fulcher) Tate. She graduated from Amarillo High School and was baptized at Temple Baptist Church, also in Amarillo. Mariella married the love of her life, Bob Gibbs, on September 11, 1950, and they enjoyed 62 years of marriage. To this union four children were born, Robert, Denise, Jim and Mike. Mariella and Bob lived in Texas for most of their married life. Mariella was a secretary for the Amarillo Public Schools for many years. Later she was a secretary for Anago in Fort Worth and then for Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway in Amarillo. She retired in 2003 and the couple moved to Bartlesville in August 2004 to be near family. The most important thing in Mariella’s life was her family. She enjoyed watching her grandchildren play and was proud of her family. On her and Bob’s 50th wedding anniversary, Mariella was thrilled to have the entire family travel to Pagosa Springs, Colorado, to celebrate the occasion. Mariella liked to sew clothes, play the piano, and she collected Beanie Babies. She enjoyed watching mysteries and current events on television. One of her favorite pastimes was reading, especially Agatha Christie novels. Her family raved over her special chocolate cake, her apricot and apple fritters and her enchiladas. She enjoyed her time at Bartlesville Assisted Living and had developed many friends there. Mariella is survived by her four children, Robert Gibbs and his wife Ann, Denise McPhillips and her husband Larry, Jim Gibbs and his wife Claudia, and Mike Gibbs; her sister, Clarice Beckett; 10 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Gibbs, on May 17, 2013; her parents; and her siblings, Opal Freeman and Arthur Tate. Her family celebrated her life on Monday, July 3, 2023, and will gather in her memory at her graveside at a later date. Interment will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery in Bartlesville.
