Marilyn Kay Hadley

Marilyn passed peacefully surrounded by her loving family on the afternoon of Monday, October 2, 2023. She is dearly missed, but her family is thankful in knowing Marilyn is now at peace and out of pain. Marilyn was born on May 5, 1937, in Wann, Oklahoma, to Edward and Vera (Short) Beair. She was raised in Wann, where she attended school and graduated. Marilyn married the love of her life, Hugh E. Hadley, after graduating high school. She went to work at Phillips 66, but she soon realized she wanted to devote her life to building a family. Marilyn and Hugh had three boys and one girl. Marilyn stayed busy caring for the children and tending her massive garden. She canned more than 500 quart jars of garden produce every year, guaranteeing she always kept her family fed. Marilyn and Hugh were involved in the community. Marilyn’s efforts helped expand the Dewey school district and brought rural water to the Wann area. Marilyn and Hugh left the farm and moved to Springfield, Missouri, in 1974, but they returned to the Dewey, Oklahoma, area in 1980. Marilyn then reentered the workforce, becoming a valuable employee to various businesses throughout the area. She retired from Central States Business Forms in 2002. Marilyn and Hugh loved to travel. They went all over the United States on their many adventures. Marilyn never went anywhere without a camera around her neck. Every picture would show Hugh carrying her camera bag. In her retirement years Marilyn loved quilting, going to quilt shops, and mixing and matching fabric. She blessed many family members and friends through the years with gifts of quilts they now treasure. Marilyn loved her family and treasured them every day. The holidays were special for her. She enjoyed going all out for Christmas and Easter. Her family was her world. Marilyn is survived by her three sons, Dan Hadley and wife Vicky of Sedan, Kansas, Mike Hadley of Havana, Kansas, and Jim Hadley and wife Maggie of Sedan, Kansas; a daughter, Peggy Marts and husband Pat of Dewey, Oklahoma; 13 grandchildren, Bobbie, Joni, Jean, Erin, Gary, Jessica, Joshua, Timothy, Ashley, Kimberly, Jimmy, Samantha, and Derrick; and 28 great-grandchildren. Marilyn was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Hugh Hadley; her granddaughter, Ellen Hadley; her parents, sisters, and many more. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Sedan City Hospital, P.O. Box C, Sedan, KS 67361. The hospital requests “Memorial” be written on the memo line of the check. Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, October 7, 2023, at Davis Family Funeral Home – Dewey Chapel, 113 S. Osage Ave. (Hwy 75), Dewey, OK 74029, 918-534-3030.
