Richard Thom Bachmann

Richard “Rick” Thom Bachmann, 68, of Dewey, OK, passed away early Friday morning, November 25, 2022, at his home. Rick was born January 16, 1954, in Tulsa, OK, to Paul Curtis and Loretta (Adams) Bachmann. Rick grew up in Cleveland, Oklahoma, where his family attended the First United Methodist Church. He attended Oklahoma Christian University, the University of Oklahoma and Southern Missouri State University in Springfield, Missouri, where he earned his teacher’s degree. Rick had attended college in Missouri, because he married Deonne Tag, who lived in Missouri and was attending SMSU. The couple married on October 15, 1977. Rick then became a member of the Lutheran Church, because his wife was raised in the Lutheran Church. After graduating, Rick taught school in Sand Springs, OK, for a year and a half. He then quit teaching and went to pharmacy school in Weatherford, OK. After graduating, he completed his internship in Shawnee, OK, and then went to work at a pharmacy in Bartlesville. That is when he and Deonne moved to Dewey, in October 1984. Their daughter, Sondra, was born on August 1, 1986, followed by their son, Aaron, on March 27, 1992. Rick went to the Bartlesville hospital for treatment and gained freedom from drug abuse after losing his pharmacist license due to drug use. He eventually started his own weed control business after working for a local weed control company that closed. He started his business in 2001, spraying people’s lawns for weeds. Rick is survived by his wife, Deonne, of the home; his daughter, Sondra Daniels and her husband Eric, of Bartlesville; his son, Aaron Bachmann and his wife Mackenzie, of Kansas City; and four grandchildren, Lydia and Logan Daniels, and Archer and Aria Bachmann. He was preceded in death by his parents and his two half-brothers. His mother Loretta died of cancer in 1974 when Rick was only 20 years old. His father Paul died at age 89 in 1997. His half-brothers (same father but different mother) died two or three years ago. They were much older than him. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, December 3, 2022, at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Bartlesville with Pastor William J. Shupe officiating. Interment will follow in the Dewey Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Carter Davis and the Davis Family Funeral Home – Dewey Chapel.
