Van Carl Vives

Van Carl Vives, 94 years of age, passed away July 3, 2024, with his wife and children at his side. He was the son of Van J. Vives & Vivian M. Vives of Thibodaux, Louisiana. He graduated from Thibodaux College HS in 1947 and attended Nicholls Junior College before entering Louisiana State University. He graduated in 1952 with a Bachelor of Sciences Degree in Organic Chemistry before joining Phillips Petroleum company in the Research & Development department in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, where he remained until retirement following 40 years of service, interrupted by a 2-year stint in the Army from 1953-1955. In 1957 Van married Loretta Bloom. They were married for 67 years, raising seven children, residing in Bartlesville until his death. Van is survived by his wife and children: Stephen (Debbie) of Statesboro, GA; Catherine Faber (Bill) of Bentonville, AR; Barbara Brewer (Ronnie) of Weatherford, TX; Robert (Linda) of Centennial, CO; Kenneth of Tulsa; Allan of Bartlesville; and Diane (Melissa) of Austin, TX; two sisters, Virginia Albert (Charles) of Luling, LA; Sister Vera Vives of the Order of Sisters of Mt. Carmel of Lafayette, LA; eleven grandchildren: Michelle Frank (Will); Nicholas Faber (McKenna); Thomas Faber (Taylor); Denise Smith (Michael); Rachel Greene (Austin); Chrisopher Jeffery; Stephen Vives and Joseph Vives; Lauren and Matthew Vives, and Indigo Vives; and eight great-grandchildren. Van was a founding member of St. James Catholic Church, former docent at The Joseph H. Williams Tallgrass Prairie Preserve, and 30-yr volunteer at Jane Phillips Memorial Hospital. Devoted to life-long learning, he enjoyed painting, photography, fishing, community theater, reading, prairie ecology, and history. Memorial donations may be made to Martha’s Task (Bartlesville), Journey Home Hospice (Bartlesville), or The Nature Conservancy. Van’s family will receive friends and Scripture will be read at 7 p.m. Monday, July 8, 2024, at the Davis Family Funeral Home & Crematory – Walker Brown Chapel, 4201 Nowata Road, Bartlesville, OK 74006, 918-333-7665. A Funeral Mass will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 9, 2024, at St. James Catholic Church in Bartlesville with Father John O’Neill officiating. Inurnment will follow at a later date at Memorial Park Cemetery in Bartlesville. Arrangements are under the direction of Davis Family Funeral Home & Crematory – Walker Brown Chapel.
