Allen Lloyd Oliphant
November 23, 1947 - May 29, 2022
Allen Oliphant, 74, of Bartlesville, husband, father, friend and VW enthusiast died Sunday in Tulsa. Allen was born the son of Marion Franklin and Catherine Eva (Tomlinson) Oliphant on November 23, 1947, in Garnett, KS. He was raised in Humboldt, KS, and graduated from Chanute High School in 1965. While out with friends on a blind date, Allen met Anna Louise Miller. She was a year behind him in school but they hit it off and soon became an item. Allen enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and while home on leave from basic training, he married Anna at her Granny Lou Anna’s home on March 12, 1967. While Allen served overseas in Libya and Vietnam, Anna lived in a cabin near the pond at Granny’s farm. Once he returned stateside, they were stationed at Keesler AFB in Biloxi, MS; Reece AFB in Lubbock, TX; and Forbes AFB in Topeka, KS. After nine years of service Allen was honorably discharged and the family moved to Bartlesville to join other family. Allen was a trained mechanic and he worked for Otasco, AutoZone and on the Mullendore Ranch, all the while working out of his home garage. He knew the value of hard work and working engines. He even enjoyed the challenges that stumped others. Allen’s passion was Volkswagen Beetles, dune buggies and VW engines, the older the better it seemed, and he was the resident expert on anything VW. Together, Allen and Anna traveled and attended various shows and swap meets, sharing his knowledge with whomever was having a VW issue or concern. When the family was young, they enjoyed camping and spending time outdoors, and in recent years they enjoyed visiting their daughter in Montana. Allen loved to help others and used his home garage to work on family and friends’ cars and to spend time with his many friends. Allen is survived by his loving wife of 55 years Anna, children Daniel Oliphant and Katie (Jordan) Oberdorf, brother Dennis (Kathy) Oliphant, sister Cathy Reed, and sister-in-law Nancy Hix, numerous nieces and nephews, and a host of other family and friends. Allen is preceded in death by his parents, sister Sherry Key, brother David Oliphant and Daddy’s dog Chico the chihuahua. Allen’s family will receive friends at the Davis Family Funeral Home & Crematory – Walker Brown Chapel, 918-333-7665, 4201 Nowata Rd, Bartlesville, on Sunday, from 3-5 p.m. Visitation will also be held on Sunday from 12-5.
