Garald “Gary” Marvin Brown, 83, of Bartlesville, died Thursday in Bartlesville. Garald M. Brown was born Sept. 17, 1937, in Sterling, KS, to Andy F. and Juanita (Lynch) Brown. They later moved to Caney, KS. After living in the old farmhouse off Hwy. 75 on Wann Road, Gary attended Copan High School. He was very active in FFA, judging, showing, and serving as district president. He came to love baseball while playing Copan and Legions ball. After graduating in 1955, he entered the U.S. Navy as a radar controller, and got to travel halfway around the world. Once honorably discharged, Gary returned to Bartlesville and went to work for Phillips Petroleum Co. He was transferred to Borger, TX, and after two years, Gary met and married Lula “Lou” (Fine) Brown. Shortly after their wedding on March 1, 1964, Gary transferred to Adams Terminal in Pasadena, TX, where they spent the next 17 years. While there their daughter Lynna was born in 1966 and son Andy joined the family in 1973. In Pasadena, Gary continued his education in Computing, Math and Science at San Jacinto College. Phillips assigned him responsibility for upgrading several IBM systems. In 1981 he transferred back to Bartlesville where he designed and supervised new computer rooms in various states. Back on his home turf, Gary coached baseball from T-ball to American Legion along with coaches Mike Robinson, Kevin Lynch and Randy Yardley. It was not only baseball, but the FFA and 4-H that Gary loved. He spent 25 years on the Washington Co. Junior Livestock Committee. He was also very proud of his 35 years as an employee of Phillips Petroleum Co. Gary was preceded in death by his father Andy F. Brown, mother Juanita Brown, brother Steve Brown and daughter Lynna Lankford. He is survived by his wife of 56 years Lou Brown of the home; son Andy Brown and Shondene of Dewey; granddaughter Shelby Lankford and her father Justin Lankford and wife Kelley of Blanchard, OK; grandson Boots Allen Brown of Copan; step grandson Dalton McAuliffe of Dewey; step-brother and cousin Bob Weber and Cleta of Dewey; numerous cousins; and special friends Jim and Kim Ketchum, and Steve Earley. Gary’s family will receive friends at the Davis Family Funeral Home – Dewey Chapel, 918-534-3030, 113 S. Osage (Hwy. 75), Dewey, on Friday, February 19th from 6-8 p.m. Visitation will also be held Friday, February 19th 10-8 p.m. Memorial services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, February 20th at the East Cross United Methodist Church with Pastors Chad Perceful and Jeff Burress officiating.
