Henry Leon Hemphill

April 23, 1934 - October 7, 2021

Henry Leon Hemphill, 87, of Pawhuska, died Thursday, October 7, 2021, in Bartlesville. Henry was born April 23, 1934, in Nowata, OK, to Bert and Lillian Viola (Stout) Hemphill. He was one of 10 children. He was raised in Nowata, where he graduated from high school. Henry attended college, but after losing his right leg in the oilfield, he went to trade school, where he earned his license to become a barber, a profession he enjoyed for more than 60 years. As for hobbies, Henry loved fishing and playing the harmonica. He enjoyed teaching other to play. Henry spent the last 18 years living with his son Bobby, who adored his father and will miss him terribly. Henry’s survivors include three children, Bobby Joe Hemphill and wife Angie of Pawhuska, OK, Harold Hemphill of Texas, and Deborah Smith of Dewey, OK; sister, Jewell Bailey and her husband Phillip Gaut of Nowata; as well as several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews and a host of friends. In addition to his parents, Henry was preceded in death by one son, Henry Leon Hemphill, Jr.; five brothers, Jesse LeRoy Hemphill, Elmer Earl Hemphill, Leslie Eugene Hemphill, Herbert Hoover Hemphill and Milford Joel Hemphill; and three sisters, Edna Juanita Monday, Mary Mae Stout, Daisy Lorraine O’Haven. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 12, 2021, at 2 p.m. in the gazebo at Dewey Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Carter Davis and the Davis Family Funeral Home – Dewey Chapel.
