James William Hodges

October 9, 1954 - July 30, 2020

James William Hodges, 65, of Edmond, OK, died Thursday in Oklahoma City. Jim was born the son of James Wyatt and Georgia Ellen (Sullenger) Hodges on Oct. 9, 1954, in Tulsa. He was raised in Osage County and loved the outdoors. His father was a firefighter and Jim looked up to him. Jim graduated from Raymond S. McLain High School in 1972. Soon after, he met Brenda Kay Tuller at the Tulsa Baptist Temple and they quickly fell in love and married on June 19, 1976. They made their home in Tulsa and raised two children Wesley and Ashley. Jim worked various jobs before starting his 36-year career with Sunoco before transitioning to HollyFrontier. In 2011 an opportunity became available with the Navajo HollyFrontier refinery and they moved to Hobbs, New Mexico. After Jim retired in 2017, they moved to Edmond to be near their children and grandchildren. Jim loved motorcycles, which may have been a close second to coffee. He bought his first Harley in 1994 and absolutely loved the free feeling of the open road. Brenda and Jim rode the Harley all over the U.S. - sometimes on their own or with many friends. They rode back and forth from Hobbs, New Mexico, just to see the kids or visit friends. Jim took both James and Ashley to Sturgis, South Dakota, to celebrate their high school graduations - trips that hold so many great memories for them. Most of all Jim loved his family and spending time with his grandchildren was dear to his heart. Whenever someone asked him if he wanted a drink or a refill on his coffee, Jim would say “This is the main course, the rest is just filler.” Jim will be dearly missed. Jim is survived by his loving wife of 44 years Brenda; two children James Wesley Allen Hodges and Caroline, and Ashley Clark and Michael; three grandchildren, Gavin Allen Clark, Laureline Ray Clark, and Hayden Jaymes Hodges; brother Charles Hodges and Lisa; sister Sandy Valadez; aunt Wanda Young; and cousin Ruth Young. He is preceded in death by his parents. Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 6, from 6-8p.m. at River Crest Chapel in Bixby where family will be receiving friends. Services will be held Friday, Aug. 7, at 2 p.m. at the River Crest Chapel, 13329 S Memorial Dr. in Bixby, OK 74008. Interment to follow at Floral Haven Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Carter Davis and the Davis Family Funeral Home – Dewey Chapel. Online condolences and remembrances may be shared at www.DavisFamilyFuneralHome.com
