Jo Ann Markley

September 19, 1936 - April 8, 2019

Jo Ann Markley, resident of Bartlesville, passed from this life on Monday evening, April 8, 2019 at the Jane Phillips Medical Center at the age 82. Jo Ann was born September 19, 1936 in Bartlesville to Roy Manford and Leona Belle Sarcoxie Shipley. She was raised in Bartlesville, graduating from College High with the class of 1954. After attending Business School, Jo Ann started her career with Phillips 66, retiring in 2001 after 44 years of service. In 1970, Jo Ann married Cliff Markley in Bartlesville. He preceded her in death a few years later. Jo Ann was a member of the Virginia Ave Baptist Church and was an active member of the Delaware Nation. In her work with the tribe, she served as a tribal council member, committee person and oversaw the election committee. Jo Ann was also a longtime and active member of the Bartlesville Indian Club, having served as President. She loved crafts, was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan; and enjoyed travel, even having been present for the fall of the Berlin Wall. Jo Ann worked helping establish the Delaware Pow-Wow and keeping it going for 55 years which was one of her proudest achievements. She loved watching her kids and grandkids dance. She was blessed in watching her great granddaughter Dani Belle Coffey be brought into the arena at last years dance. She loved this little girl which was her sunshine. She loved to watch her dance. Those that survive include her daughter Lu Ann Hainline of Bartlesville; grandson Jake Coffey of Bartlesville; great granddaughter Dani Belle Coffey; sons – Anthony Kills Crow of Ponca City, Mark Hainline of Ochelata; grandsons Chad Kills Crow of South Dakota, Brad Kills Crow of Ponca City, grandson Jerry Mason of Colorado, Mark Allen Hainline of Ochelata and granddaughter Debbie Hainline of Miami, OK. She claims the following as her children: Elaine Clinton, Lisa Griffith, Lisa Jones, Tori Spottedbear, Julia Jones, Sarah Jones and Jacob Jones. Besides her husband, Jo Ann was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Patsy Lou Morrison and a nephew Mickey Joe Morrison. A traditional Indian wake will be held Thursday starting at 6:30 PM at the Virginia Avenue Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, April 12, 2019 in the sanctuary of the Virginia Avenue Baptist Church with Pastor Wally Thames officiating and assisted by Anthony Kills Crow, Chad Kills Crow and Curtis Zungia. Burial will follow the services at the Memorial Park Cemetery in Bartlesville. Casket bearers will be Mark Hainline, Mark Allen Hainline, Brad Kills Score, Chad Kills Score, John Bennett and Luke Cowles. Honorary bearers will be Current Delaware Chief Chet Brooks; and past Chiefs Larry Joe Brooks, Dee Ketchum, Paula Pechonick and Curtis Zungia. Services are under the direction and care of Carter Davis and the Davis Family Funeral Home – Walker Brown Chapel.
