John LeRoy Barger, 92, passed from this life on May 6, 2022, to be with his Savior and reunited with the absolute Love of His Life, Frances. John was born the son of LeRoy and Pauline (Payne) Barger, October 29, 1929, in Caney, KS. John was raised in Bartlesville but made his forever home in Dewey, OK, with Frances where they raised their family. John attended and graduated from then College High School in Bartlesville, OK. John and a friend hitchhiked to Coffeyville, KS to enter Coffeyville Junior College where he was given a football scholarship and received his associates degree. John furthered his education and attended New Mexico State University, NM, where he also played football and basketball. John left NMU early to enlist in the United States Airforce where he served his Country for four years. Airman, Barger was stationed at Laredo Air Force Base. While there he played avid football and basketball. John led physical fitness to condition the cadets and pilots. Upon his honorable discharge, John returned to Bartlesville to meet “The prettiest girl he’d EVER seen” at an American Legion dance. John and Frances were married November 27, 1959 and kept their dance going for 62 years. At this time John became a member of the Bartlesville Fire Department and retired with 27 years of awesome service. John then went on to a second career at Jane Phillips Medical Center for 20 plus years as their Maintenance Supervisor. He and Frances both retired from the Medical Center with 55 plus years of service between them. John was also known as one of the great Cowboys in his time. His passion for a good “dogging” horse was amazing. His impeccable and savvy horse sense was passed on to his children and grandchildren as well. He loved the sport of Rodeo and competed in the bulldogging, now known as steer wrestling. John rode in the “Big Ones” such as Houston, Ft. Worth, San Antonio. John and Frances enjoyed arts and crafts, specializing in “Horseshoe creations”. The couple began traveling all over the United States and being involved with kids and grandkids activities. John’s devotion to his family was undeniable and unmistakable and his legacy will live on in his children and grandchildren. They are his testimonies of his amazing love and faithfulness. John is survived by his children, daughter, Terri (Hal) Barbee; two sons, Bobby (Cassie) Barger, and Kelly (Kara) Barger; one grandson, John Robert Barger; and one granddaughter, Katy Lynn Barger; nephew, Travis Woodson; three sisters, Bonita Walker, Paula Hudson, Janet Everly; one brother, Walter Barger; numerous nieces and nephews. John is preceded in death by his wife, Frances Barger; two sisters, Cleva Knode and Norma Cox; and parents, LeRoy and Pauline Barger. Open visitation will be held Sunday, May 15 from 12-5 and again on Monday, May 16 from 9-1. John’s family will receive friends and family at the Davis Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 4201 Nowata Rd., Bartlesville on Sunday, May 15 from 3-5.
