Julia Marie Gurley
October 13, 1942 - October 20, 2021
Julia Marie Gurley, 79, of Dewey, died Wednesday in Bartlesville. She joins her beloved husband Gene and Christ her Lord and Savior for all eternity. Julia - or Judy as she was known - was born the daughter of Harold and Rachel (Bowling) Carpenter on October 13, 1942, in Bartlesville. She was a lifelong resident of Washington County. Judy grew up on their family farm where her father raised show horses and Judy and her sister Carol took on many of the daily chores. While shopping at Bills Supermarket Judy met the love of her life Robert “Gene” Gurley. They quickly fell in love and were united in marriage on March 3, 1962. The young couple made their home in Bartlesville before moving to Dewey in 1999. Judy worked at the U.S. Bureau of Mines for several years. Gene preceded her in death on April 27, 2019, after 57 years of loving marriage. Judy and Gene thoroughly enjoyed each other’s company and relished taking drives together, going to the lake or visiting family in Colorado. Gene loved to drive and carry on a conversation, and Judy was happy to listen. Judy loved the Lord and was active in the ministries of their home church First Baptist in Bartlesville. She faithfully ran the nursery for many years and was a Sunday School teacher. She liked staying busy so she used her God-given talents to crochet and sew, selling her creations at craft fairs and giving away many to her family and friends. Judy was a loving and caring wife, mother and grandmother, often times caring and raising her grandchildren who loved her dearly. Judy is survived by her grandchildren, Robert Hicks and wife Pam of Dewey, and Julia Queen and husband Jordan of Dewey; and five great grandchildren, Natalye, McKinzie, Aria, Dominick and Corvus. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Gene, daughter Lisa Lea and sister Carol Cochran. Visitation will be held on Monday, October 25, from 10-8, at the Davis Family Funeral Home - Dewey Chapel. Graveside services will be held 10 a.m. on Tuesday, at Memorial Park Cemetery, with Chaplin Peggy Nix officiating. Services are under the direction of Carter Davis and the Davis Family Funeral Home – Dewey Chapel. Online condolences and remembrances may be shared at www.DavisFamilyFuneralHome.com.
