January 16, 1948 - September 12, 2021
Margie Nickerson, 73, longtime area resident, died Sunday in Dewey with her husband Jerry by her side. She built a legacy of genuine love and leaves it to be cherished by their children, grandchildren, family and friends on earth. Margie was born January 16, 1948, in Lubbock, Texas, the daughter of Duane and Dorris Carter. Margie was a bright and eager learner – she simply loved to learn, effortlessly excelling in her studies. She was especially proud of being the runner-up spelling bee champion of Lamb County when she was 11, misspelling her last word “Satiate.” Margie remained an avid reader through school and for the rest of her life. When their loving daughter was in her teens, the family moved to Miami, OK, and Margie graduated the third in her class from Miami High School in 1966. One day at Hudson Creek Baptist Church, young Margie met Jerry Nickerson. The pair became high school sweethearts and tied the love knot at her parents’ home on July 29, 1966, shortly after graduating. They made their home primarily in Bartlesville, spending just one year in Houston for Jerry’s work. Margie herself worked at Reda Pump before becoming a full-time mom to her four children who were her pride and joy. Once the kids were older, she managed not one, but two laundromats in Bartlesville and Dewey and cared for children in her home. Margie was a wonderful wife and mother who took great pleasure in caring for the home and family she was blessed with. Together with Jerry, their tight-knit family did everything together and she lovingly supported all their activities. She loved the Lord and had a servant’s heart. Margie insisted on caring for her grandchildren herself so they didn’t need to attend daycare. Once the grandkids were older, “Mimi” or “Memaw” (“Poppy’s better half”) would pick them up from school every day with a beaming face and take them to Sonic for treats. Margie’s loving smile was everything, and her family will miss her dearly. Margie is survived by her loving husband of 55 years Jerry; mother Dorris Carter; four children, Julie Richardson and fiancé Michael Lowry, Gina McCauley and Jason, Doug Nickerson and Leslie, and Dirk Nickerson; two brothers Billy Carter and Betty, and Jimmy Carter and Patricia; sister Shirley Carter; and four grandchildren, Jill Richardson, Jaycie Nickerson, Rylie Nickerson and Vincent Nickerson. She is preceded in death by her father Duane Carter. Margie’s family will receive friends at the Davis Family Funeral Home – Dewey Chapel, 918-534-3030, 113 S. Osage (Hwy. 75), Dewey, on Thursday, from 6-8 p.m. Visitation will also be held on Thursday from 10-8. Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. on Friday, at the Fairland Cemetery in Fairland. Services are under the direction of Carter Davis and the Davis Family Funeral Home – Dewey Chapel. Online condolences and remembrances may be shared at www.DavisFamilyFuneralHome.com.
