Sylvia Ruth Adkins

Sylvia Ruth Adkins, 80, of Wann, died Thursday, February 18, 2021, in Dewey. Sylvia was born September 3, 1940, in Chelsea, OK, to Ivan Lee and Viola Lucille (Spillers) Jackson. She was raised in the Barnsdall area and attended schools there. In May 1958 she married James Leroy Adkins Sr., and the couple made their home in Pawhuska. Later, they purchased the Adkins Ranch in Sperry. Sylvia has lived both in Bartlesville and in Tulsa, working as a nurse’s aide at Tulsa Regional and then later at Concern Day Care in Bartlesville. Sylvia enjoyed gardening in her flower beds and watching Star Trek, but her favorite pastime was babysitting her grandchildren. She loved her Scottish Terrier Wolfy. The family recalls her spending time floating down the Illinois with her grandchildren. She was a member of the Dewey Methodist Church and participated in numerous church activities. Survivors include four children, Jerry Shaffer and husband Larry of Chelsea, James Leroy Adkins and wife Kelli of Nowata, Karen Eckert and husband Tim of Wann, and Belinda Eckert and partner Frank Whitlocke of Dewey; two sisters, Jean Walter and husband Chuck, and Linda Ray Henshall and husband Butch; two brothers, Joe Jackson and wife Lavern, and Jimmy Lee Jackson and wife Sarah; nine grandchildren, Crystal Charles and husband Jason, Larry Shaffer Jr., Shauna Giles and husband Nick, Jessica McGuire and husband Jason, Jake Adkins III and wife Jackie, Timothy Joe Eckert and wife Doris, Donald James and wife Shannon, Elizabeth Jean Howard and husband Justin, and Darrell Eckert and wife Jessie; 23 great-grandchildren and a host of other family members and friends. In addition to her parents, Sylvia was preceded in death by her sister, Loretta Jackson. Sylvia’s family will receive friends at the Davis Family Funeral Home - Dewey Chapel, 918-534-3030, 113 S. Osage (Hwy. 75), Dewey, on Sunday, February 21, from 3-5 p.m. Visitation will also be held on Sunday from 12-5. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, February 22, 2021, at the Davis Family Funeral Home - Dewey Chapel, with Pastor Tim Eckert officiating. Pallbearers include Donnie Eckert, T.J. Eckert, Michael Eckert, Justin Howard, Jake Charles, Jake Adkins and Levi Charles. Interment will follow in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Claremore.
