November 22, 1927 - March 24, 2021
Thomas Jefferson Anthony Rhodd passed away Wed., March 24, 2021, at age 93. He had been saved by the grace of God and blessed by the love of his wife, family and friends. Tom was born the son of Enos “Doc” and Elizabeth “Lizzie (Curley) Rhodd on Nov. 22, 1927, in Sacred Heart in central Oklahoma. He was raised on the family farm and while young, the family moved to Shawnee where his father had a filling station and small grocery store. Over the years Tom worked various jobs including construction with his brother, truck driver, dozer operator and oil field pumper. Through friends, Tom met Vivian L. Dyer and they quickly fell in love. Some may say he fell faster than she did, but she quickly came around and they married on Aug. 29, 1949, in Bentonville, AR, and enjoyed 71 years of loving marriage. Tom made a habit of (not) retiring and starting a second career - after working for Chevalley in Dewey for 15 years, he went on to pump oil leases for another 15 years. Tom loved motorcycles and cars, tinkering on them whenever repairs were needed. When the kids were teens everyone had their own motorcycle except Vivian who was happy to just ride along with Tom. They took many memorable family bike vacations and attended church together. Tom rode lead - the only problem was he often got lost, making up time on the way home, and because he went so fast no one could keep up with him. Together Tom and his bride Vivian enjoyed attending Saturday night dances, and were members of the Moose Lodge and the Copan Round-Up Club. The grandkids whined that grandpa’s passion in life was tormenting them, but he was the go-to guy when any problem arose. Tom loved his family dearly and will be missed. Tom is survived by his wife of 71 years, Vivian L. Rhodd of the home; three children, Vesta Huffman and husband Mike, Thomas A. Rhodd and significant other Carolyn Martin, L. Michelle Oswald and husband Mike; as well as six grandchildren; Thomas M. Huffman, Michael R. Glendenning and wife Jesi, Max R. Glendenning and wife Billie, Melissa Huffman, Michael R Huffman, Corey R. Huffman; eight great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, five sisters, a brother, two half-sisters, two half-brothers, and one grandchild Michael Jason Huffman. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 12-5 and Monday 9-1 at the Davis Family Funeral Home – Dewey Chapel, 918-534-3030, 113 S. Osage (Hwy. 75), Dewey. Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Monday, at the Dewey Cemetery with Troy Thomas officiating. Services are under the direction of Carter Davis and the Davis Family Funeral Home – Dewey Chapel. Online condolences and remembrances may be shared at www.DavisFamilyFuneralHome.com.
