Douglas McArthur Eikenbary

Douglas McArthur Eikenbary, 81, longtime Barnsdall resident, died Wednesday morning, February 28, 2024, at the Journey Home. Doug was born the son of Frank Washington and Litha Estelle (Pennington) Eikenbary on July 3, 1942, in Oilton, OK. He was raised in Oilton and graduated from Oilton High School in 1960. While in Drumright one day, Doug met Juanita Abshire and quickly fell in love. Just three short years later, they eloped to Bentonville, AR, where they were married on May 10, 1962. After 58 years of loving marriage Juanita preceded Doug in death on September 14, 2019. Doug served in the U.S. Navy and was stationed at Naval Base San Diego in California (homeport of the US Pacific Fleet) and Juanita joined him for his two-year assignment. During this time her parents moved to Enid, so upon returning to Oklahoma, Doug and Juanita made their home in Enid for the next 10 years. The family moved to Tulsa for four years before settling in Barnsdall in 1977. Doug went to work for a subcontractor of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Birch Lake. At his retirement he was the maintenance supervisor. Together Doug and Juanita enjoyed fishing and bowling. He enjoyed gardening and taking the long way everywhere he went. They were longtime members of the Barnsdall United Methodist Church. He will be dearly missed. Doug is survived by two children, Tammy Beerbower and Monte, and Rob Eikenbary; four grandchildren, Heather, Daniel, David, and Levi; three great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He had a close bond with his niece, Sandy Hayes. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, and siblings. Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 29, 2024, from 10-8 at the Davis Family Funeral Home – Walker Brown Chapel, 918-333-7665, 4201 Nowata Rd, Bartlesville. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Journey Home, 900 NE Washington Blvd., Bartlesville, OK 74006. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. on Friday at the Freewill Baptist Church in Barnsdall. Services are under the direction of Carter Davis and the Davis Family Funeral Home – Walker Brown Chapel.
