Gary Wayne Chitwood Sr

In Loving Memory of Gary Wayne Chitwood Sr. Gary Wayne Chitwood Sr. was a loving husband, devoted father, cherished grandfather, and a respected member of the community as well as a member of the Cherokee Nation. He was born on June 22, 1945, in Ramona, Oklahoma, and peacefully reunited with his wife and Lord on November 14, 2023, in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. Gary was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jackie Chitwood, who passed away in 2021. He was also preceded by his parents, Roscoe Birdwell Chitwood and Levena Mae Tucker Chitwood, as well as his brothers Ronald Chitwood and Ralph Chitwood. He is survived by his children; Rebecca Chitwood, Gary Chitwood Jr. and wife Leslie, and Karen Capel. Gary was a proud grandfather to Jennifer De Respini and husband Kenny, Shannon Bradley, Sean Bradley, Korin Mayborn, Zachary Capel, and Alexandra Capel. His legacy extends to his great-grandchildren, Leila, Lucas, Lillian, Kenedi, Kyler, and Hendrix. Sister-in-law, Linda Chitwood and Janice Thomason. Gary was a skilled craftsman who worked in construction, pouring his dedication and hard work into every project. He shared a passion for gardening and tending to his property with his late wife, Jackie. He was a talented woodworker and found joy in crafting items such as canes, candle holders, and intricate figures; all of which started off as nothing more than parts of trees. His artistic touch also extended to blacksmithing. Gary lived a life devoted to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He was a devout believer that stood firm on the scripture’s teachings. He wholeheartedly believed in the Bible and the relevance it holds in today’s world. He would lead discussions about the Bible often; dissecting the meaning and teaching it verse by verse. He was fervent in his studies of scripture and prayer. Gary’s love for Jackie, was a guiding light that illuminated every chapter of their shared journey. Their union was a testament to enduring love, mutual respect, and unwavering companionship. Their shared passions, from gardening to exploring the pages of the Bible, were woven into the fabric of their relationship. His devotion to Jackie, now reunited in eternity, remains an enduring legacy of a love that transcends time. In their earlier years, Gary and Jackie were members of a boat club, and fostered fond family memories of camping trips and deer hunting. The family also embraced adventure as they joined a jeep club, where they indulged in off-road excursions. Gary's affinity for horses was evident, as he enjoyed working with them and sharing his passion with those around him. His love for his family was immeasurable. As we remember Gary, let us celebrate the diverse tapestry of his life, marked by the love of a Savior, love for family, craftsmanship, and a zest for adventure. May his legacy continue to inspire us all. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 2, 2023 at 10:00 am at First Baptist Church of Ochelata. Friends and family are invited to join in remembrance and support during this difficult time. May Gary rest in eternal peace, reunited with his dearest wife and other loved ones who have gone before him.
