Jane Edith Sell

Jane Edith Sell (Janie Jackson), 67, of Dewey died Saturday in Bartlesville. Janie was born to Charles G. and Betty Jane (Applegate) Jackson on Nov. 21, 1947 in Bartlesville. She grew up in Dewey and was a majorette at Dewey High School before graduating in 1966. An adventurous spirit, Janie was unafraid to pursue her dreams wherever they led. While at OSU in Stillwater, she became fascinated with the entertainment industry and moved to Tulsa to pursue her interest. She was a cast member at Tulsa’s own Mazeppa TV show, alongside such talents as actor Gary Busey, Gailard Sartain (who became a Hee Haw regular) and country-western legend Leon Russell. Next stop was Las Vegas where Jane worked as a pit boss at the Hilton Casino, then on to California for a short spell before returning to Stillwater. But Janie’s travels were far from over - she even sailed the Queen Elizabeth 2 across the Atlantic to Europe before flying back stateside via the Concorde supersonic jet. Jane met Wayne in Tulsa and they married in California on Sept. 16, 1977. She worked for Jim West and the charitable International Chili Society and helped organized chili cook-offs throughout America including the World Championship in Lancaster, CA. Next, she worked for C.V. Wood Jr., chili enthusiast, husband of silver screen actress Joanne Dru and also Chairman and CEO of Lorimar Telepictures which merged with Time Warner before being sold to MGM. It was a dream come true for Janie the movie buff to get to work in the “biz.” Janie returned to Tulsa in 1989 before finally moving to Dewey in 2006. Janie is survived by her husband Wayne Sell of the home, one sister Judy Jackson Reding of Stillwater, one nephew Brad Vermeire and Libby of Allen, TX, two nieces, Wednesday Reid and Mitchel of Dewey and Chrystal Rice and Curtis of Denver, CO, five great nephews, two great nieces and her loving Boston Terrier Gracie. She is preceded in death by her Parents. Janie’s family will receive friends at the Davis Family Funeral Home, 918-534-3030, 113 S. Osage (Hwy. 75), Dewey, on Friday, April 17, from 5-7 p.m. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 18, 2015, at Town and Country Christian Church, with Rev. Lanny Smith officiating.
