Mary Lou Dean

Mary Lou Dean, 83, of Dewey died Tuesday in Bartlesville. Mary Lou was born the daughter of George and Gladys Opal (McMaster) Ward on August 7, 1931, in Copan. She was raised and educated alongside her 10 siblings in Copan. By chance Mary Lou meet Bill through mutual friends, and within a year they were united in marriage on June 18,, 1949 in Bartlesville. In 1959 the couple and their four children moved into the home they built. Bill acquired the five acres for $100 by agreeing to serve on the board of the Antioch school their children attended. Mary Lou ran the family grocery known as the Four Mile Store for many years. Mary Lou and Bill enjoyed nearly 66 years of marriage. Mary Lou’s passions in life were her children and grandchildren. She attended all their activities and was their biggest fan. Every year Bill would put out the garden and she loved to can the vegetables she would use in preparing home cooked meals for the family. Once retired Bill and Mary Lou traveled all over with their camper and attended bluegrass festivals enjoying each other’s company. She will be dearly missed. Mary Lou is survived by her loving husband Bill of the home; four children Judy Chaney of Wann, Steve Dean of Copan, Betty Trimble and Leroy of Copan, and Marie Pruett and Larry of Copan; two brothers Jerry Ward and Dorothy of Wann, and Glenn Ward and Jeanette of Kingfisher; three sisters Thelma Fay Thomas of Copan, Sharon Hayden of South Coffeyville, Margarett Ward of Copan; nine grandkids; 24 great grandkids; four great great grandkids; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; one great granddaughter Rachel Nicole Carner; and five siblings George Ward, Conjetta Fiddler, Georgie Holland, Patsy Hill and George Ward Jr. Visitation will be Wed. 4-8pm and Thur. 9am-8pm at Davis Family Funeral Home, 918-534-3030, 113 S Osage (Hwy 75) in Dewey. Funeral services will be held 2 pm on Friday, June 12, 2015, at the Rose Hill Community Baptist Church, with Rev. Orville Moody officiating. Interment will follow in the Wann Cemetery.
