Randy Garner Carter

Adrian Garner “Randy” Carter, age 73, of Okesa, passed away at his home on Saturday, June 11, 2022, surrounded by his loving family. Randy was born September 10, 1948, in Independence, KS to Glen Leon and Virginia Inez (Garner) Carter. The family made their home in Cherryvale, KS. Randy met and fell in love with Cynthia “Cindy” Lou Knudsen in 1982, and the loving couple have been together for the past 40 years. They were united in marriage on December 31, 1992. Randy’s passion was to live life to the fullest with family, friends, animals, nature, and all by himself. Family meant everything to him. He was a gifted, talented man. If he could not figure something out, he would sit and think about it until the correct answer came to him. His laughter and smiles were contagious. He loved helping friends, neighbors, and anyone in need. Randy had a kind heart and enjoyed helping others. He served as a volunteer of the Okesa Volunteer Fire Department. He loved the outdoors, especially watching his hummingbirds, which he kindly called his “hummers.” He loved fishing, whether it be sitting by the creek or in his canoe. Windsurfing became another passion. Randy was an avid swimmer and a lifeguard. Randy took pride in his yard. Get togethers were joyous events when Randy played his guitar and sing like a bird chirping his strongest melody. As a young man, Randy was an Altar Boy in his Catholic religion. He worked for many years at Phillips Petroleum Company as a Systems Analyst and traveled all over the United States for his job. At one time he owned and operated a bar on Johnstone Street in Bartlesville. Randy previously married Leah Westerfield and to this union son Tony and daughter Tina were born. He considered his children his greatest accomplishment in life. He instilled in them to be kind and respectful, to not interrupt when someone else was talking and to go that extra step to help others. Cindy said, “Randy was the only love of my life. He made my life enjoyable and was always so good to me. We were soulmates and we fell in love at first sight.” Tina said this about her father, “My dad was not a big man, but he was larger than life to me. He loved big, laughed, worked and played hard. You could have great philosophical conversations with him and he loved old sayings. My father was a listener. Dad loved to play guitar, sing and whistle. I want to say goodbye dad, but pray to see you again.” Randy’s sister Glendel shared the following, “My brother was many things: Determined, tenacious, fun-loving, cantankerous, devil may care, and last of all, opinionated. He was the most loyal, protective brother, and a friend. Family meant everything to him. I will miss you, little brother. Happy trails to you, until we meet again.” Randy is survived by his wife, Cindy; daughter, Tina (Carter) Davis and husband Kevin; grandchildren, Summer and Andrew Davis; sister Glendel and husband Don Williams; nephew, Brian Williams; and niece, Melissa and husband Elvin Payne, and their two children, Maria and Dakota. There were three men in Randy’s life who he loved dearly, and you know who you are. Randy is preceded in death by his parents, Glen and Inez Carter, and son Tony Carter, who he loved with all of his heart. Services are under the direction of Carter Davis and the Davis Family Funeral Home & Crematory – Walker Brown Chapel.
