Mrs. Vida Marie Hall

Vida Marie Hall, 86, died Sunday morning at the home of her daughter Joyce in Bartlesville, OK. Vida Marie Hall was born the daughter of Stephen Samuel and Lee Annie (Cornutt) Baxter on Dec. 6, 1927, in Hollis, OK. While she was young, the family moved by covered wagon to Heber Springs and then to Lindsey Hill, AR before settling in St James, AR. She soon met the love of her life Chester C. Hall and they were united in marriage on January 1, 1946, in Pleasant Grove, AR. They made their home in St. James where they raised their two beloved children Lonnie and Joyce. After 63 years of marriage, Chester preceded her in death in 2007. Vida attended college in Batesville, AR, and completed her master’s degree in early childhood education in Conway, AR. She taught 1st and 2nd grades for 33 years in both Pleasant Grove and Mountain View schools. She moved to Bartlesville three years ago to live in her daughter’s home where she could be taken care of while she struggled with Alzheimer’s. Mrs. Hall had a lifelong passion for learning, writing poetry and gardening. She loved all children especially her grandchildren with whom she spent many precious, quality hours. She was a member of the St. James United Methodist Church and attended Dewey First Nazarene while living in Bartlesville. She will be dearly missed. Mrs. Hall is survived by her two children Lonnie Chester Hall and Sharon of House Springs, MO, and Joyce Marie Caraway of Bartlesville, Ok; two brothers David Baxter of Locust Grove, AR, and Alvin Baxter and Shirley of Port Byron, Illinois; one sister Lena Holt and Edwin of Colona, IL; four grandchildren Kim Vance and Denny, and Christopher Hall and Mandy, both of House Springs, MO, Shannon Caraway and Stephanie of Mountain Home, AR, and Sara Vermeire and Scott of Germany; and 12 great grandchildren. Mrs. Hall is preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers Herbert Baxter, J.C. Baxter and Sammy Baxter and three sisters Orine Baxter, Ruby Powers and Lorene Thompson. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Cornerstone Hospice, 3414 SE Kentucky St, Bartlesville, OK 74006. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, July 24, 2014, at St. James United Methodist Church in St. James, AR. Visitation will be held at St. James United Methodist Church from 10 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. Interment will follow in the St. James Cemetery.
